Cactuskin, like Pineappleskin, is an eco-friendly alternative to polluting animal leather.

Created by the Mexican company Desserto®, Cactuskin is the result of two years of research and development.

Why choose cactus?

The cactus is an iconic plant of Mexico, where it grows in abundance. It's a tough, resilient species that adapts to extreme conditions and can survive in areas where nothing else grows.

Growing cactus requires no irrigation system, as the plant can absorb the water present in the atmosphere.

What's more, the cactus is a true natural carbon sink: it can absorb more than 8000 tonnes of CO2 a year!

How is this cactus-based material made?

Cactuskin is made from cactus leaves. These come from cacti grown in the state of Zacatecas in Mexico, following organic farming practices. Only mature leaves are cut, so the cactus itself isn't damaged.

The leaves are first dried in the sun for three days, then ground and mixed with a binder such as latex, bio-polyurethane or polyurethane (which should make up the smaller part of the composition).

Cactus leather is used to make vegan bags for women and vegan shoes for men, but also vegan clothing for women and vegan clothing for men !
