What is recycled polyurethane?
Recycled polyurethane is considered an eco-friendly material, as it avoids the pollution linked to producing virgin polyurethane.

Polyurethane is a chemical synthetic fibre derived from petroleum. Its fibres have great elasticity. That is why this material is used to make clothes that offer comfort and freedom of movement.
This material is suited to making sportswear and swimwear.
The main qualities of polyurethane, comfort and breathability, make it possible to create clothes that adapt to every curve.
Other types of products use polyurethane, such as handbags, for example, offering a vegan alternative to leather.
Polyurethane is derived from plastic and is therefore a synthetic material that is harmful to people and the planet.
While polyurethane is a highly polluting material, its recycling can only be welcomed.
Recycled polyurethane means:
- Less polyurethane dumped in nature or incinerated, and therefore less waste and pollution.
- Less polyurethane produced, and as a result less pollution.
This is why recycled polyurethane can be considered an eco-friendly, zero-waste material.
Recycled polyurethane, not without Guppy Friend
Be careful, though: polyurethane, even when recycled, releases plastic microparticles into the environment. To prevent this, the most effective solution today is to use a wash bag called Guppy Friend. It traps the vast majority of microparticles and prevents pollution of marine ecosystems.
The Guppy Friend wash bag, which traps at least 90% of plastic microparticles.
