What is Seaqual®?

Seaqual® is a 100% recycled polyester, 10% of whose raw material comes from ocean waste (fishing nets, plastic bottles recovered from the oceans, etc.).

Turning plastic waste from the oceans into material the textile industry can use.
Turning plastic waste from the oceans into material the textile industry can use.

The waste is collected by fishermen and by organisations on beaches in Europe, around the Mediterranean and on the west coast of Africa.

It is then sorted, washed and cut into small flakes, which are then blended with other (higher-quality) recycled polyesters to make a yarn and then a fabric.

Seaqual® Yarn fabric is GRS (Global Recycled Standard) and Oeko-Tex 100 certified.

How do you wash Seaqual®?

Be careful though: Seaqual® is a synthetic material, and even recycled, it still causes microplastic pollution. To prevent this, the best solution today is to use a wash bag called Guppy Friend. It traps the vast majority of microparticles and keeps them out of marine ecosystems.

The Guppy Friend wash bag, which traps at least 90% of microplastic particles.
