What is recycled Tencel®?

Tencel®, also called Lyocell, is an eco-friendly material made from wood pulp and a non-toxic solvent. Tencel® is highly valued in textiles because it is a breathable, durable fabric, very similar to silk. It is sometimes called vegetable silk.

Recycled Tencel® is produced using Tencel® fibres that have already been used or Tencel® waste from various sources, such as worn clothing or production offcuts.

What are the benefits of recycled Tencel®?

The Tencel® recycling process involves collecting this Tencel® waste, breaking it down into fibres and reconstituting them to create new recycled Tencel® fibres. These recycled fibres are then used to make fabrics and clothes.

Using recycled Tencel® has several environmental benefits.

  • First, it reduces dependence on virgin raw materials, as it uses existing materials. What's more, the Tencel® recycling process uses less water and energy than producing virgin fibres.
  • Recycled Tencel® also keeps the beneficial properties of conventional Tencel®, such as its softness, breathability and moisture absorption. It is used to make durable, environmentally friendly clothes, offering a more ethical alternative to traditional synthetic fibres such as polyester.
