Good to know
- An abacá canvas, a fibre taken from a banana plant, with a water-repellent layer that helps the upper cope with splashes.
- A fully vegan trainer, right down to the water-based glues: the look of a classic trainer, without a trace of leather.
- A sole made of 80% natural rubber, flexible and grippy on tarmac.
Material & feel
The abacá upper has a matt, tightly woven canvas texture. The white panels are smooth and partly made from corn, and the suede is synthetic. Inside, a mostly cotton lining feels soft against your foot. The trade-off: polyurethane, nylon and polyester. They make the canvas water-repellent, give the suede its velvety touch and keep the tongue neat under the laces.
When to wear it?
From spring to autumn, for getting around town and long days on your feet. On days with uncertain weather too: the water-repellent canvas shrugs off a light shower.

Careful, the shape is unusual. When I tried them on I thought they were fine but slightly uncomfortable, I put the discomfort down to them being new and thought the shoes would soften and mould to my foot, but no. They're weirdly narrow, the size seems right since they are lengthwise and my toes don't touch the end of the shoe, but the width is narrower than any shoe I've ever had before, which is unpleasant or even painful. The outsole starts coming unstuck after just a few days/weeks, and it only gets worse. Also worth mentioning a blister on the heel after an hour... I'd have liked to return them but unfortunately I missed my chance.
