The Leather Working Group (LWG) is an international organisation that aims to improve the environmental performance of the leather industry. It was founded in 2005 by a group of companies involved in the leather supply chain, including brands, tanneries and chemical suppliers.

One of the LWG's main activities is developing and implementing a leather standard, which sets environmental and social performance criteria for leather production. The standard covers areas such as chemical management, water and energy use, and waste management. It is based on existing laws and regulations, as well as on the industry's best practices.

To become a member of the LWG, companies must undergo an independent assessment of their facilities to make sure they meet the requirements of the leather standard. Once a company is certified, it can use the LWG logo to show its commitment to sustainability.

Alongside its work on the Leather Standard, the LWG also runs research and development projects, and offers training and courses to its members. It also works with stakeholders such as governments, NGOs and consumers to promote sustainable leather production.

The Leather Working Group plays a key role in promoting sustainability in the leather industry, and its efforts help reduce the environmental impact of leather production.
