Kings of Indigo at WeDressFair

Kings of Indigo, an ethical clothing brand for women and men

Founded in 2011, Kings of Indigo is a brand specialising in eco-friendly jeans, with increasingly diverse collections. Kings of Indigo takes a proactive, transparent eco-friendly approach to today's social and environmental challenges.

The denim brand bases its sustainability on five pillars:

  • using eco-friendly materials and products
  • reducing water waste
  • social responsibility
  • reducing the environmental impact of transport
  • reducing waste.

The environmental commitments of Kings of Indigo clothing

The ethical brand Kings of Indigo shows its environmental commitment through the raw materials used in its clothes. For natural materials, the brand uses GOTS- or OCS-certified organic cotton, and materials with a very low environmental impact, such as linen and hemp. Kings of Indigo also uses low-impact man-made materials such as Tencel™ Lyocell, Tencel™ Refibra (a blend of Tencel™ and recycled cotton) and bio-stretch, an innovative biodegradable material that replaces stretch, which is mostly made of plastic and found in many jeans. The brand also uses recycled materials, such as cotton, wool and polyester. Kings of Indigo even offers a collection made entirely from recycled cotton, preserving the cotton's quality through Refibra™ technology.

The brand also holds a large number of labels: its virgin cotton is always GOTS or OCS labelled, and almost all its products are PETA labelled (except those in recycled wool and the Kitosan collection). All its recycled products are GRS or RCS certified. Finally, Kings of Indigo is strongly committed to reducing pesticide use, as shown by its OEKO-TEX and Blue Sign labels.

Kings of Indigo also limits its environmental impact by only working with carriers that offset 100% of their carbon footprint.

Finally, the ethical fashion brand pays particular attention to its water use: for example, each pair of its jeans needs three times less water than a traditional pair, mainly thanks to its research into new ways of treating jeans.

The ethical commitments of Kings of Indigo

Kings of Indigo protects workers' health by not using toxic substances in its manufacturing process. The brand uses innovative techniques such as laser and gas so as not to endanger workers' health. This also avoids polluting the water, which helps ensure good living conditions for the people living near the brand's workshops.

A member of the Fair Wear Foundation since 2013, Kings of Indigo guarantees that minimum social standards are respected in all the workshops it works with. The working conditions of everyone the brand works with comply with the ILO and the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. Regular audits are carried out by third parties, such as the Fair Wear Foundation.
