What is recycled leather?
Recycled leather is leather that has been collected, shredded and mixed with natural rubber to become a brand new material.

View allThere are several ways to recycle leather.
Once collected, it can be reused as it is, without any major change. This is closer to what's known as upcycling.
Here, what we call recycled leather is a material made from collected leather and leather offcuts, which are shredded and mixed with natural rubber (latex) to create a paste. This paste is then dried and rolled out into a thin layer to recreate a material, which is then dyed.
This regenerated, or recycled, leather looks just like leather. If you look closely, you can see it's a blend of several materials.
Why is it eco-friendly?
Leather is a material that can have a heavy environmental footprint. As a product of livestock farming, leather comes from one of the most polluting industries on the planet. Processing leather can also have a major impact on the environment and on human health.
Recycled leather is therefore a good alternative to stop producing leather and use what we have already produced.
